What does an Osteopath do?
In Australia Osteopaths are AHPRA registered allied health professionals who have completed the relevant tertiary degrees to become qualified as an osteopathic practitioner.
We begin with an overall assessment of your posture and movements. We also incorporate a range of clinical examinations and orthopaedic assessment in order to provide a diagnosis for your condition.
.
As osteopaths our philosophy is that the body functions as a unit. As such we tend to view the body as a whole rather than just focus on it's individual parts. For this reason we try to understand how each system functions together.
.
Osteopaths utilise a variety of hands on techniques to address the neuro-musculoskeletal system. This means we take into account the bones, muscles, nerves and other tissues that support your body and control its movements.
Each practitioner will select their techniques based on their assessment of the patient with the overall aim to reduce tension, normalise movement and improve functionality.
They may also provide you with lifestyle and occupational advice as well as an exercise
program to continue your recovery at home.
